How Handiro Works: Booking a Pro in Plain English

A short, clear explanation of how Handiro works for both customers and pros. Posting jobs, comparing quotes, and what happens after you book.

How Handiro Works: Booking a Pro in Plain English

If you've ever called five home service companies, gotten three callbacks, two voicemails, and a quote that turned out to be wildly different from the actual bill, Handiro was built for you. This is the plain-English explanation of how Handiro works for both homeowners and pros.

For homeowners: the short version

You post a job in 60 seconds. Vetted local pros send you written quotes. You pick the one you like. You only pay the pro you book. The platform is free.

For homeowners: the longer version

Step 1: Post a job

Describe what you need help with. The form takes about 60 seconds to fill out. You can:

  • Pick a category (plumbing, electrician, handyman, cleaning, moving, HVAC, pest control, and more)
  • Add photos
  • Set your address privacy (ZIP only, city + ZIP, or full address)
  • Set your timing (same day, this week, this month, flexible)
  • Optionally add a budget range

That's it. No phone calls, no upsells.

Step 2: Vetted pros send you quotes

Local pros who do the type of work you posted see your job and decide whether to send a quote. Each quote includes:

  • Total price (or line-item breakdown for larger jobs)
  • Their availability
  • A short message
  • Their profile: ratings, completed jobs, license/insurance status

You see quotes in your dashboard. You also get a notification (email, text, or push) when new ones arrive.

Step 3: Compare and decide

Look at the quotes side by side. Check ratings. Read the pro's profile. Message them with questions if you want.

There's no pressure. You don't have to accept any quote.

Step 4: Book

When you find a pro you like, you accept their quote. At that point, your full address is shared with that specific pro. No other pro sees your full address.

You agree on the actual date and time with the pro directly (in-app messaging is fine; phone is fine too).

Step 5: Get the work done

The pro shows up, does the work, you confirm completion in the app.

Step 6: Pay and review

Pay the pro directly: most accept card, ACH, Zelle, or cash. Handiro doesn't take a cut from your payment.

Leave a review. Reviews stay editable for 48 hours so you can update them after seeing how the work holds up.

What it costs you

Nothing. Handiro is free for homeowners. No subscription, no posting fees, no booking fees. The pros are the ones who pay us, and only when they actually win work.

This is deliberate. We don't want you to skip the platform for a $5 job or get hit with a 15% markup on a $5,000 job. You pay the pro what their quote says.

What about privacy?

Your address privacy is in your control. Three options:

  1. ZIP only: Pros see your ZIP code only. Used for getting accurate quotes.
  2. City + ZIP: Pros see your city and ZIP. Used when you want pros to gauge drive time.
  3. Full address: Shared only with the pro whose quote you accept.

Phone number works the same way. You can keep it private until you accept a quote, or share earlier if you'd rather pick up a call.

For pros: the short version

You sign up free, pass verification, and start receiving job alerts in your area. First job is free. After that, $19/month subscription or $10 per accepted job. Customers pay you directly.

For pros: the longer version

Step 1: Apply and verify

Create a free pro account on Handiro. You'll provide:

  • Identity verification
  • License information (for trades that require it in your state)
  • Insurance certificates
  • Service categories you want to receive jobs for
  • Service area (radius from your home base)

Verification is reviewed by our team. Approval typically within 1-2 business days for clean applications.

Step 2: Start receiving jobs

Once approved, you see jobs posted in your area for categories you serve. You decide which ones to quote.

Quotes are written, with price, your timing, and a brief message. The customer compares your quote against others.

Step 3: Win the work

When a customer accepts your quote, they unlock your contact details and you unlock theirs. You agree on timing directly.

Step 4: Do the work and get paid directly

Customer pays you for the work directly. We don't take a cut of the job payment. We make money from the small per-job or subscription fee.

Pricing for pros

  • First job: Free
  • After that: Choose one
  • $19/month subscription: Unlimited accepted jobs
  • $10 per accepted job: Pay only when you win

Most pros switch to the subscription once they're doing 3+ jobs a month.

Why we built this

Home services in the US is broken in obvious ways:

  • Customers waste hours making phone calls and getting voicemails
  • "Lead generation" sites sell the same lead to 5 pros, who then race to call you first
  • Big platforms take 15-30% of each job, pushing prices up
  • Reviews are gamed; bad pros buy their way to the top
  • Real pros lose 40% of their margin to middlemen

Handiro is the simple alternative: free for customers, fair for pros, transparent pricing, real reviews, and ownership of your customer relationship after the first job.

What we won't do

  • We won't sell your data to third parties. Period.
  • We won't take payment until you're ready. Pros only pay when they accept a job.
  • We won't gate reviews. All real reviews are visible.
  • We won't lock you in. Customers and pros can use the platform once and never come back. No cancellation fees, no penalties.
